DESERT LIVIN
I have been in the desert now for two months and have settled into life here. I love it here because it is so different from Calgary. I will be going home in a week and will miss some things about the place, but not everything. I think these Joshua trees are neat. Originally named by Mormon pioneers coming into the area because the trees reminded them of the bible story of Joshua with his arms outstretched towards the heavens. I will miss these.
Had some visitors when I first arrived. They move in in the summer seeking water. This is a palmetto beetle (they are named after the date palm tree and look remarkably like a date, hence, I have given up eating dates since who knows really what you are eating.) I will not miss these, nor the spiders, lizards or other creepy things.
Ants are a constant here in the desert. They invade overnight and really like cookies left on the counter. Not going to miss ants either.
One of the many species of cacti in the desert. They have their own beauty and spring in the desert is lovely with the cacti blooming in splendid color. I will miss the desert landscape.
These two beauties always make my time in the desert complete. The girls came down for Thanksgiving to spend a week away from the snow of Rexburg. It has been cooler here than usual, but better than Calgary or Iceberg. At least it is above freezing! I always miss the girls and my boys when I am away from them.
This Thanksgiving I am thankful for my family, friends, health, home, freedom, and especially Daveboy.
