The family is back in the desert for Christmas. It was an ordeal to get here this time since we drove. A terrible snowstorm forced us to stop in Fillmore Utah and wait out the storm. Woke up to two feet of snow, the power out in our hotel and no complementary breakfast. It snowed/rained the entire trip and we finally arrived last night feeling very buzzed. Since the weather is lousy and southern California is socked in and facing landslides and floods, I have been reading. The book I suggest, that should be on everyone Christmas reading list, is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It is a captivating, suspenseful novel that is so well written that I wasn't able to put it down until I finished it.
The other book I found interesting, yet disturbing, was The 19th Wife. I couldn't put that down either, and when I did, it took me three weeks to get over my disgust and anger. It is a work of fiction based on the life of Brigham Young and polygamy, then and now. It raised a lot of questions about that dark subject, (didn't give me the answers that I was looking for, but still it was an interesting insight into early Mormon history). My next book will be the second book of The Hunger Games Trilogy Catching Fire. I hope that it is as good as the first.
